Organizing on Separate ShoresThe UCLA Labor Center is at the forefront of developing labor leader and labor scholar exchanges between the United States and Pacific Rim countries, especially China and Vietnam. The Labor Center has helped to develop an ongoing labor exchange between the L.A. County Federation of Labor and the Shanghai Municipal Trade Union Council, the first of its kind between the United States and China. The Labor Center is also working to develop the field of labor relations with three universities in Vietnam and to strengthen the legal aid centers that provide worker rights assistance. The center also have published a new book, Organizing on Separate Shores: Vietnamese and Vietnamese American Union Organizers , comparing the experiences of Vietnamese and Vietnamese American union organizers.
