Joe’l Reyes

Joe’l Reyes (he/him/his) is a program manager with UCLA CARE at Work. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with an emphasis in Cognitive Science from the University of California, San Diego, and is a proud McNair Scholar.

Before joining CARE at Work, Joe’l served as a case manager in San Diego, where he supported housing navigation for LGBTQ+ and HIV/AIDS-affected communities, as well as individuals experiencing homelessness. Earlier in his career, he worked with the Black Organizing Project in Oakland, focusing on community engagement. In that role, he helped lead Know Your Rights trainings, coordinated voter outreach, and organized town halls to address school pushout and racial inequities in the Oakland Unified School District.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Joe’l also partnered with the David E. Glover Center in East Oakland to launch Video Game Night—a weekly violence prevention initiative offering youth a safe space and access to state-of-the-art gaming experiences.

Outside of work, Joe’l enjoys playing pickup games at his local chess club and sitting in on jazz jams as a keyboardist.
