Global Solidarity Team awarded $300,000 California Workplace Outreach Project (CWOP) grant

The Global Solidarity team at the UCLA Labor Center has been awarded a $300,000 California Workplace Outreach Project (CWOP) Communications Support grant for the 2026–27 program year. The grant will support the creation of communications materials that make California state agencies more accessible to Indigenous Mexican farmworkers across California.

As part of this grant, the Global Solidarity team will create videos, fact sheets, flyers, social media graphics, and other materials explaining four key California labor and workforce agencies: the Agricultural Labor Relations Board (ALRB), Labor Commissioner’s Office (LCO), Employment Development Department (EDD), and Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH). Materials will be developed in English, Spanish, and six Indigenous language variants: Triqui of San Martin Itunyoso, Oaxaca; Triqui of San Juan Copala, Oaxaca; Mixteco of San Martin Peras, Oaxaca; Mixteco of Juxtlahuaca, Oaxaca; Mixteco of Metlatonoc, Guerrero; and Zapoteco of Coatecas Altas, Oaxaca.

The Global Solidarity team will co-create these materials alongside Indigenous community partners and worker rights organizations, including the Mixteco Indigena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) and Centro Binacional para el Desarrollo Indígena Oaxaqueño (CBDIO). The project will utilize a popular education methodology that centers community knowledge to reduce barriers to accessing state agencies among Indigenous worker communities.

The Global Solidarity team will be joining CWOP, connecting with organizations across the state working to expand access to labor rights, health and safety protocols, legal services and state agency resources to workers. The project builds on the team’s ongoing work to build cultural competency among California state agencies to better serve Indigenous Mexican immigrant communities and farmworkers.
