We Gon’ Be Alright
M115: We Gon’ Be Alright course empowers students to develop the skills and mindset needed for transformative leadership. This class is hybrid in nature and brings students from across Southern California; together students will connect with leaders of comunity organizations, labor organizers, and take part in immersive projects and community-based work.
A Pathway to Organizing and Black Economic Justice
M115: We Gon’ Be Alright is more than a course—it is a powerful entry point into organizing, activism, and movement-building rooted in the fight for Black economic justice.
This virtual UCLA course examines the history, strategies, and ongoing struggles of labor and community organizing, with a particular focus on the Black worker crisis in California and beyond. Students develop a critical understanding of systemic inequities in the workplace and explore how collectice action, cultural resilience, and community power have shaped the labor movement over time.
From the Classroom to the Field: The Freedom Fellowship
The WGBA course also serves as a pathway into the Freedom Fellowship, an immersive 10-week field experience that places 10 to 15 students from across the UC system and Los Angeles Trade-Technical College directly within Southern California’s Black worker centers and partner organizations, including Eathlodge Center for Transformation.
Fellows receive hands-on training in labor rights, grassroots organizing, and community healing, while contributing to real-world campaigns that challenge racial capitalism and uplift Black working-class communities.
Building the Next Generation of Movement Leaders
Whether you are a future organizer, scholar, policymaker, or community leader, We Gon’ Be Alright and the Freedom Fellowship offer the foundation, mentorship, and practical experience to deepen your impact and a reminder: through collective struggle and care, together we gon’ be alright.
