Gaby Gil

Gaby Gil (she/they) is originally from Guatemala and graduated from Whittier College with a Bachelor’s of Arts in History and minor in Spanish. Through their time at Whittier they worked with peers to create more resources for undocumented students including an undocu emergency fund, Pro Bono legal services and ally trainings for faculty and staff. Gaby further volunteered at different organizations such as COSECHA, and President’s Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration to advocate for our communities, coordinating demonstrations and organizing with community members. Gaby is also a proud alumni of the Dream Summer Fellowship program for the 2017 cohort. They were placed with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 2015 where they collaborated with the Political Coordinator in establishing the curriculum for Democracy Schools to educate and mobilize union members to be politically engaged, becoming institutionalized in 2018. They have taken their advocacy to education where they have worked closely with students doing counseling and coordinating programming about identity, first-gen college experience, and other marginalized groups. Gaby aspires to continue working alongside youth, uplifting their stories and empowering them to reach their full potential as leaders of the immigrant rights movement. Gaby’s passions include ensuring that undocumented/DACAmented folx feel supported and empowered by their community throughout their time at Dream Summer and after as well. Gaby looks forward to connecting with our fellows, partners, and alumni to work collaboratively in advancing opportunities for our communities, to meet our goals and ensure we center the needs of our fellows and community. They are excited to be part of such an empowering group of individuals who are incredibly talented and care deeply about systematic change.
