The UCLA Labor Center held virtual celebration in the spirit of the annual banquet on November 19, 2020. This event honored Gerry Hudson (Service Employees International Union), Linda Delp (UCLA Labor and Occupational Safety and Health Program), Ron Herrera (Los Angeles County Federation of Labor), Hilda Solis (Los Angeles County Supervisor, District 1), and the UCLA Labor Studies Class of 2020. The event also included powerful student and young leader speeches and a beautiful performance by singer-guitarist-social activist Diana Gameros.
During the celebration the center’s Building Labor’s Future fundraising campaign was announced. Building Labor’s Future is focused on establishing a permanent home for the Labor Center by purchasing the building that currently houses the Labor Center at 675 S Park View St, Los Angeles, CA 90057, a location recognized as “Labor’s Home” by many workers and worker leaders across the city.
The UCLA Labor Center’s mission is focused on advancing the rights of workers in low-wage industries, Black liberation, and immigrant rights through cutting-edge research, leadership development, education, and policy change in collaboration with unions, worker center, students, and impacted communities. Contributions to this campaign help advance this mission for years to come.
